This was a fairly boring week for us. I didn't have anything scheduled for our "Something Special" or any major projects planned. I am thankful that we got all of our normal curriculum finished.
Math U See: Finished Lesson 17
First Language Lessons: Finished Lessons 51-53. We did a few extra worksheets on nouns and pronouns to make sure he has lots of practice.
All About Spelling: Completed Step 19
Reading: We kind of took a break from the reading assignments this week. He read a ton of books from the book basket and took a few
comprehension tests.
Adventures: In
Bible this week, we looked at the different places where birds are mentioned. We loved reviewing how God used the dove with Noah and also at Jesus' baptism. It was yet another way the Old and New Testaments work together so perfectly.
This tied in with the beginning of our bird study in
Science. Senior has already mentioned that he misses doing experiments but I hope he starts to enjoy this study. A little project we did to kick off our study was to make a pair of binoculars.

In history we kicked off our tour of the United States. We will be visiting one state per day. Senior has a worksheet to color that helps him learn: the state location, capital, postal abbreviation, bird, flower and some interesting facts.
We are learning the states in the order they were added to the union. The four states we covered this week were: Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Georgia.

Some states have fun projects to do. When we learned about Pennsylvania we made the Liberty Bell. Sometime this weekend we are going to make Peach Cobbler for our study of Georgia.

This week Senior watched the first half of "How the States Got Their Shapes" that I DVRed last month. He loved connecting a few of the facts that he had learned. I'm sure we will watch it again when we have finished visiting all 50 states.

In music, we are continuing our study of Tchaikovsky by looking at The Nutcracker. Today we read this version of the story that has really beautiful illustrations. While the boys listened to several of the songs they colored some Nutcracker sheets.

Everyone's favorite part was the hot cocoa! Senior will also be working on a
Nutcracker Lapbook during our study. A little reminder to other Adventure families- start thinking about buying tickets to a local ballet. I wish we were able to go to the Atlanta Ballet but that is not in the homeshool budget this year.

This week Senior had his dress rehearsal for his recorder concert. We are so proud of how hard he has worked so far this year (some days were better than others). I can't believe that he can read sheet music at 6 years old!

Go on over to Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers to see what other families did
this week.
Look how precious he is all dressed up like that! LOVE IT!!
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for pointing out the OT and NT connections in Bible. I completely missed that! That's one of the perks of doing this together, KWIM? :)
As for our schedule . . . we're going to do Week 15 next week, Week 16 the week after that, Week 13 the week of Thanksgiving, then we're DONE until January!!! WOO HOO!!! (We started early specifically so we could take off the month of December - I'm tired of my precious Savior getting overlooked in my own home because life is too busy!)
Anyway, it looks like it WAS a good week! Not boring, just different with the state studies, don't you think?
This looks like a great productive week! My oldest is getting ready for a violin recital also on the 14th. Hope everything goes well for your son.
ReplyDeleteWe had a "fairly boring week" too! Though we did a few "extra" activities -- we stuck pretty close to the lesson plans.
ReplyDeleteLove those pictures of Senior all dressed up --- so cute!
Looks like a good week! We're studying Tchaikovsky this month too.
