Whew! I share Kris' relief that this week is finally over. The snow was fun the first two days but I am so glad to finally see it melting! We were glad that Daddy was "snowed in" with us until Thursday. Daddy, not so much, ha ha. He said that he was about to walk to work ;-)

Senior gave me a little grief about having school when all the other kids were off but he had plenty of down time.
The boys helped me make a snowflake snack and enjoyed eating it.
Senior wanted Daddy to do all the teaching while he was home, I was feeling the love ;-)
Math U See: Finished Lesson 23
All About Spelling: Completed Level 2 Step 2. I have to say that we are LOVING this curriculum. Senior is really enjoying the new challenge.
First Language Lessons: Done with Lessons 72-74
Complete Writer: Finished Week #17
Reading: Our reading books this week came from our Adventures book basket selections. The favorite this week was Snowflake Bentley which was perfect! Senior is still doing book reports, setting maps, and character maps from Busy Teacher Cafe.
Senior's fun books this week:
Adventures (week #17): In Bible, we continued to study how Jesus is Immanuel. In history this week, we are looking at the pioneers going west and the state of Kentucky. Our science this week continued our look at weather. We made our own experiment with melting snowballs. We insulated one in paper, another in aluminum foil, the bottom left is our control, and the bottom right has salt on it. Senior's hypothesis was WAY off, so this was a great opportunity to teach him about insulation and the effect of salt on ice.
After an hour or so..
Finally, after 3 or so hours. As expected, the salt melted first, then the control, then the foil, and last was the paper.
Next week we are looking forward to Jesus- the Lamb of God, Eli Whitney, Tennessee, and an introduction to living things/cells. Most of all I am looking forward to not being stuck in the house!!Head on over to Weird, Unsocialized Homeschoolers to see what other families did this week.
5" of snow... we weren't much behind you - 3". Our neighborhood doesn't have little kids - so snow days come in the spring when the birds migrate back and there's NO snow. Keep up the good work. I hope daddy had fun teaching.
ReplyDeleteLOVE all the hands-on stuff! We're spending a week with Snowflake Bentley starting tomorrow, and studying snow, salt and sugar crystals. It should be interesting!
ReplyDeleteOh, and in our area of Maine we got 18 inches of snow. School's closed for the day, but reopened the next.
