During our "Something Special" time this week, we made hand and footprint art. I adore having my babies prints together! These are the papers that I will keep forever!!
First Language Lessons: Finished Lessons 48-50
Reading: Senior read these three books this week and did a book report, a character map, and comprehension tests.

All About Spelling: Finished Lesson 18
For some extra fun in his workboxes, I put Lego instructions to build a pumpkin, a Halloween creative writing sheet, and a Halloween word search.
In history we studied more about George Washington and him becoming the first President of the United States.
This morning I made Johnny Cakes for the boy's breakfast. This is a very authentic food of early America. Senior loved it with syrup but G Tot was not too impressed.
We started a new Read Aloud this week. After finishing Sarah Whitcher's Story, we started Little House in the Big Woods. We are going to read two other books in the series this year with Adventures so I am hoping to get this one and Little House on the Prairie read before we start them.
One of my favorite memories this week was reading chapter one. I guess it is a boy thing because instead of being grossed out by all the "butchering", "headcheese" and "bladder ball" he thought is was absolutely hilarious and laughed so hard! I love homeschooling!!

Yes!! Your pea experiment worked! Maybe we should have used peas instead of lima beans. I honestly didn't think it would make much difference.
ReplyDeleteI love all the reading things you do along with the book basket books (e.g., character map). I should probably do something like that since I don't use a formal reading curriculum!
And I double love all the fun stuff--the pumpkin craft, the Lego pumpkin--it's all great! I tried to find the Lego pumpkin at the Lego site (I followed your link on Wednesday), but all I found was a bat and a skeleton. :( Anyway, looks like LOTS of fun and something GREAT to tuck into a workbox!
Great week, Gator Mommy!
Sorry about that link. This one is for the pumpkin :)

I also do not use a reading curriculum because it is so hard to find one. Most of them are packaged with spelling and English and his reading level is several levels above his spelling and English. I hope I am doing enough because I am making things up as we go along :)
Thank you so much for the sweet complements coming from experienced homeschoolers that means so much!
Hey - I stole your BusyTeacherCafe forms. LOVE THEM. I do not do any book report or other character study sheets so these will help me. I also posted them on my wrap-up linking to your blog. Thanks for the GREAT IDEAS!
ReplyDeleteWe first made the Johnny Cakes (which we called "hoe cakes" because they were cooked on hoes, I guess) after reading George Washington's Breakfast a few years ago. Daughter #2 loves them even without syrup (granted, I add sugar to the mix) and has asked for them frequently since then when it's her choice for supper. On the other hand, Daughter #1 could barely gag down a couple of bites that first time. :^)
ReplyDeleteThis looks like you guys had a lovely week. Those hand n foot print art projects are soo cute - I think we'll have to quick do some too before they're out of season!
