First Grade- Week in Review #4

We had another fun week at Baby Gator University.

Math U See: Completed Lesson 7 and started 8. He is counting and combining Pennies, Nickles and Dimes and can tell time to the 15 min. He is doing great and said it is his favorite subject. He must take after his Daddy :-D

All About Spelling: Completed Step 9 & 10. Senior said this is his least favorite subject because it is boring and he already knows these words. Any tips? I am doubling up but don't feel like I should skip steps completely? He also does not seem to enjoy using the tiles and would rather just write the words on paper. I am praying that he will enjoy it more when he is finally challenged.

First Language Lessons: Completed Lessons 23-25

Reading: Seniors reading book was "The Paint Brush Kid". He is doing great on his book reports and continues to work on setting.


Adventures: Bible- We learned that Jesus is The Light of the World! Other fellow Adventure Mommies, did you know that Mama Jenn has created printables for all of the Bible verses this year? She is AWESOME, go check her out! Here is the candle we made to remind us of "The Light of the World".


History: We studied Native Americans this week. Senior really enjoyed this study and the books we read. We made wigwams and tepees and had a great time together.

I love the look of concentration while he decides how to design his tepee.


Here is the finished product (well before we added the twigs to the top of the tepees). Senior took this picture and was very proud of this work.


Science: This week we had an overview of the stars and gravity.

We waited to do most of our science for the weekend so Daddy could join us. If you can't tell what is going on in the picture- Senior is the Earth spinning, G-Tot (led by Daddy) is the moon orbiting the Earth, ha ha.


Our experiment was to see the effect of gravity on objects of different weights. In this picture, Senior has dropped a penny and a piece of tissue paper. The penny is already out of the frame while the tissue is slowly floating down. This is because of the effect of air pushing up on the tissue.


Then we put the penny and tissue in identical boxes to see what would happen. They hit at the same time.


Senior's hypotheses was correct but he thought it was because the boxes now made them the same weight. So we tested again with several coins in the box and just the tissue in the other. They hit at the same time.


To drive the point home, Daddy dropped a twelve pound weight and a Lincoln Log (not from the balcony this time, ha ha) and guess what.... yep, they hit at the same time :-D
